A Cabinet of Curiosities – Frank Harwood & Jim Pilston
August 25, 2022 @ 11:00 am - September 20, 2022 @ 5:00 pm

Presenting an exhibition of work by artists Frank Harwood & Jim Pilston, an eccentric collection of extraordinary characters and objects.
Celebrating characters, objects and stories in this colourful selection of paintings and sculptures by these fabulous artists. Angels and devils, Gods and monsters with a heady dose of the everyday, for those that see the world differently.
This exhibition will run from August the 25th until September the 20th here at Heart of The Tribe Gallery with a private view on Thursday the 25th between 6.30 and 8.30pm
A long time Glastonbury resident, Frank Harwood remains one of Heart of The Tribe’s most popular Artists to date. Heavily influenced by fables and nostalgia, Frank’s work explores how memories get entangled with the common cultural references of his childhood, including comics he read and the television he watched growing up. Describing his techniques as using a “simple comic style”, Frank uses bold lines with repeated patterns, playing with flat space and vivid colours.
As one of Heart of The Tribe’s more recent Core Artists, Jim Pilston has already made an impact on the local art scene by gaining a keen following of collectors. Jim’s work is influenced by legend and folklore, with sculptures that are colourful and full of intrigue. With just a vague sense of the intended outcome when starting a piece, Jim works very instinctively to see what kind of character emerges, whether it is an angel, devil, monster or God. Most of the materials Jim uses are repurposed and recycled. Jim explains “I get a thrill out of creating something magical out of materials that can be found in skips and rubbish piles.”
Frank and Jim’s work harmoniously complement each other in this unconventional and vibrant exhibition of painting and sculpture. There is often a humorous tone that runs through the creations of each Artist and both are inspired by themes of the past and mythology.
Heart of The Tribe Gallery is open every day except Wednesdays between 11am and 5pm. We do not require pre-booking to view the exhibition during normal opening hours. Admission is free. Please email for out of hours viewings.
