Are you an artist who wants to develop their practice, a student who wishes to know more about cutting edge art practice, a person who wants to develop their creativity outside of the prescribed box ?
Each week for 6 weeks Melanie will lead a 2 hour workshop on Saturday’s from 10.30am –12.30pm.
Workshops will include taster talks / understanding your own creative process / artist’s short films and a chance to practically create new work under the guidance of Melanie.
Week 1 –introducing contemporary art practice
week 2 –installation art
week 3 –site specific art
week 4 –performance art
week 5 –performance writing
week 6 –collaborative and intervention art.
Cost £15 per workshop or £75 for all 6 in advance.10 people maximum.
The workshops will be held in the brand new gallery / creative space of Heart of The Tribe on Glastonbury High Street.
At the Heart of The Tribe gallery, we aim to support a sustainable local culture through art, community and education.
Melanie Thompson has been practicing and teaching all aspects of contemporary art practice for the last 40 years. She has an M.A in contextual art practice and has taught and performed all over the world. She was a part time member of staff for 25 years at Dartington College of Arts in all departments. She has created 4 large public art projects in Somerset over the last 15 years, Tor Dance Festival in Glastonbury, Palace Intrusions in Wells, Scaping the Land in the Rural Life Museum, Glastonbury and most recently Wildedges at the Alfred Gillett Trust in Street. She has spent most of the last few years creating work and teaching in Denmark. She lives in Somerset. This is a rare opportunity to work with Melanie, these workshops are a chance to dip into a deeper practice which she hopes to develop in collaboration with the gallery over 2020.
