WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? Solo Exhibition by Melanie Thompson
April 12 @ 11:00 am - May 4 @ 5:00 pm
“We the readers, listeners and watchers are crucial to the text, story, performance becoming powerful. We are not the impartial observers, we are a fundamental part of the circuity, if we are not connected, the charge will not be able to flow.” Kate Tempest
Interdisciplinary artist Melanie Thompson, core artist at the Heart of the Tribe gallery, Glastonbury is opening her multi – media solo exhibition this Spring
The exhibition has been postponed and will open the Monday after lockdown ends. (currently 5th April – but this is subject to change)
For 23 days, she will use every space in the gallery, offering site specific installations, past and present photomontages, and live performance to explore the question which we are all currently asking: Where do we go from here?
Melanie’s background and training is as a physical performer as well as a visual artist so every day during February she created a live performance called Empathetic Shoes where Melanie put herself into other people’s shoes and accompanying sound tracks offered by the public.
The live performance, Empathetic Shoes whappened via live stream on the Heart of The Tribe facebook page at the same time every day between February 1st to 23rd 2021. In it Melanie tried to explore her own question – Where do we go from here ? by offering the act of empathy as a way to move forward. She did this by feeling ‘what it is to be in someone else’s shoes’.
These performances will be collated into a short film which will be exhibited as part of her solo show.
“In this exhibition I wish to share the crossing over and bridging between different stories and materials. Creating an immersive site specific environment where the visitor can ask the question where do we go from here?”
Much of the work featured in this show will be exhibited for the first time.
